Let me tell you about my workshops! Digital Fiber Mini Quilts- 2 versions- one or two days!!

There are 2 versions of Digital Fiber Mini Quilt based on the number of day’s chosen- 2 great choices!  Basically, the workshops are a smaller version of my Segmented Fiber Quilts workshop. Both workshops explore an innovative quilt presentation that folds! Both are based on Wen’s book, Digital Fiber, creating a segmented mini-fabric quilt with a photograph on inkjet ready fiber and inkjet printed!

The one-day workshop participants can choose to use one of Wen’s 12x12 photographs printed on digitally prepared fabric to create their quilt. They could also choose to use a personal photograph. That photograph file/jpeg would need to be sent to Wen her one month before class. Sized at least 12x12 inches or bigger, in square format, at 180-300 resolution, labeled with your name. Send to with Digital Fiber Mini-Quilt in the subject line.
The digital quilt will feature a new edge treatment that uses paint! Because the quilt is in segments, using the old-fashioned binding method just won’t work. It’s much too bulky. Her painted edges yield a wonderful new textural accent to the finished segmented piece. You’ll learn how to apply a protective coating, medium enhancements or washes to the top of the quilt that will enhance the colors and protect it too.
The unique segmented quilt lends itself to various configurations and presentations. Too much creative fun!!
The 2-day workshop, Digital Fiber Collage Mini Quilt, extends everything you would learn in the one-day workshop except you create your own fabric collage to print on! The main difference between digital mini quilt "one day and two day is the second day we work with our own fabrics viva collage and digital grounds. We'll print the result in the workshop as well- printer must be provided by venue or students can bring their own.
The collage will be created from fabrics the participant brings to workshop. Natural fabrics in light, white or beige fabrics work best. But low textured fabrics, Old linens would be cool too! Bring some and experiment! A great way to extend this workshop would be to add a 1 or 2 day Fab Fabric Painting workshop first and use some of those newly painted fabrics in the collage creation!
The collage you create with your own fabrics will be digitally prepared with grounds for a very clear and lasting fabric print.  inkAid will be introduced and used.
Participants can create a simple altered photograph of their very own to print! Wen includes a demonstration on her new innovative sneaky layering technique so you can easily create unique layered photos. You can use Photoshop or an app called Photoshop Mix or any similar blending app. The app should be able to blend or layer 2 or more photos. This should be downloaded before class onto your phone or ipad so you don’t waste any time in class. Easy!
We will discuss how Wen prints on fabric, photographic enhancements and dividing a photo to create larger work. This is needed if your printer doesn’t print as large or as wide as you want your finished work to be. The resulting new photograph will be printed on the collage you created! So cool!
In both workshops, Wen will show you her innovative batting technique- fusing felt to the back which serves as both backing and batting!
Besides learning about Wen’s protective coating and finishing techniques, the students will have the opportunity to try specialty medium enhancements for a unique mixed media mini quilt!
Hope you’ll join us!
